TO YOUR CHILD WITHIN - YOUR GREATEST ASSET

There's a child inside of you who holds the key to your greatest dreams. While he/she may be temporarily frightened by other people and events, he refuses to let go of those dreams. He tugs at your leg for attention. He whines for you to notice him.

FORGET ABOUT SPORTSMANSHIP AND FAIR PLAY, "IT'S JUST SOFTBALL!!!!"

She was just 15 years old and a pretty talented little pitcher. Under "normal" circumstances, she was a competitor who usually kept her head on straight. Handling pressure wasn't a big deal for her. However, THIS was!

HEY COACH, WHY DO I HAVE TO PRETEND I'M NOT INJURED TO PROVE I'M TOUGH??!!!

Hey coach, how come you won't ever let anyone on the team be sick or injured? Why do I always feel like a wuss whenever I'm in pain around you? How come I feel like I have to go out of my way to hide how I'm really feeling physically or else you'll get upset?

CAN I TELL YOU WHY I CHEAT?

Let me be honest with you here just for a second. I know your shot was two inches in. I saw it very clearly, but I had to call it out because I needed that point and the game!

NOTE TO PARENTS: I KNOW I'M PART OF THE PROBLEM...BUT I'LL NEVER ADMIT THAT TO YOU!!!!!!

Yes, I'll admit to being the head coach of this 13 year old girls' team and might I add, I'm proud to say that I think I'm a really good one!

PEAK PERFORMANCE UNDER PRESSURE - GETTING SERIOUS AT THE RIGHT TIME

One of the most common reasons that athletes fall into slumps and/or begin to choke under pressure is that they start to get too serious about their sport and performances AT THE WRONG TIME!

EVIDENCE OF A BADLY BROKEN SYSTEM

Two weeks ago Nationalcoachsurvey.org released a disturbing, but not unexpected report compiled from polling thousands of high school and college coaches on the topic of intentional injuries.

OUR COMPETITIVE YOUTH SPORTS SYSTEM IS BADLY BROKEN

There's something very wrong going on in the gym, on the field, in the pool, on the course, courts and/or track. It's something quite insidious, sometimes operating just below the radar, and at other times breaking through and creating very loud, upsetting emotional "noises" which reverberate for weeks and months at a time.

WHEN PARENTS TOTALLY LOSE PERSPECTIVE

A mother is watching her college-aged daughter, C, now a senior, play in a championship doubles match. Mom is hanging onto the fence directly behind the court as if it's the only thing preventing her from being swept away by a strong wind. She has been yelling and screaming, at times inappropriately, in response to the rise and fall of the match and her daughter's fortune.
