Your score was:

00

Possible Score Range: -20 to 55

(The lower your score, the more you experience your parents as supportive and feel a healthy amount of independence within your sport. Higher scores suggest that some aspects of your parents' involvement may be creating additional pressure, frustration or stress.)

A note about your score

Your score isn’t a measure of how much your parents love you or how much they care about your success.

In this assessment, lower scores generally indicate that you experience your parents as supportive and feel a healthy amount of independence within your sport. Higher scores suggest that some aspects of your parents’ involvement may be creating additional pressure, frustration or stress.

Parents usually get involved because they care. They want to help. They want to see you succeed. And sometimes their own worries, expectations or experiences can affect how they respond to what happens in your sport.

The important question isn’t whether your parents are “good” or “bad” sports parents.

It’s whether the way they are supporting you is actually helping you feel confident, independent and able to enjoy and take ownership of your sport.

Is Pressure Getting in the Way of Your Performance?

Pressure doesn’t only come from parents. It can come from coaches, teammates, expectations, important competitions — and especially from the expectations you put on yourself.

If you’re struggling with nerves, fear of making mistakes, perfectionism, confidence, overthinking or feeling like you perform differently in competition than you do in practice, you don’t have to just “get mentally tougher.”

At Competitive Advantage, we help athletes develop the mental and emotional skills to compete with greater confidence, composure and focus.
