Description

I’ve been working in swimming for 34 years with athletes at every level from Olympians all the way down to age groupers. SMOKE ON THE WATER is one of my best sellers and swimmers have found it so effective that I’ve added more cutting edge info to create an updated, second edition!

Smoke on the Water has been a great tool for my swimmers. It’s easy to understand and chock full of effective mental toughness exercises. Since we’ve been using it, I’ve noticed a significant difference in my kids’ confidence and how they handle big meet pressure! Thanks for all your help! – Sue Parnes, NCA, California

  • Are you getting the most out of your training every day?
  • Do you get too nervous at meets to swim your best?
  • Are you a mentally tough swimmer?
  • Do you lose to teammates you regularly out-swim in practice?
  • Do you have trouble controlling your pre-race and during race focus?

I read this book when I was down and out in high school. I was ranked in the top three in my two individual events for our State Swimming Championships. I ended up sixth in both. At the end of the meet, I vowed I never would swim again and was to focus my Senior year just on academics alone. My father gave me this book and it turned my swimming career around. My Senior year I was able to put the past behind me, swim faster then expected, and even making a Junior National Cut to travel to Alaska to compete. That year I also accepted a full scholarship (instead of being a walk-on like I had thought). I went on to compete in Division II and swim better each year, never ending the season with out a life time best. I recommend this book to those who are willing to take a deep look around and within themselves. If you are looking for a quick fix, look elsewhere for a band-aid. This book is meant to be read slowly, so best to be read during an off-season… or committing a chapter per week to actually have an effect on an athlete. – Amazon reviewer

Dr. G’s classic book, (NEW edition) Smoke On The Water introduces the reader to the importance of training the mental side of the sport and provides concrete steps, tips and motivational stories to help you free up your “super swimmer inside.”

I would like to express my appreciation for your books and CDs, especially “Smoke” and the impact that it’s had on my coaching style. For the last four years I have coached a girls’ high school swim team. I started using Smoke as a guide for doing mental training with my girls and the difference has been profound. My kids have developed a great attitude about their performances, even when we were swimming against some of the best teams in the State and getting blown out of the water. Thanks so much. – Mike, Wisconsin

Hi Alan- just wanted to thank you again. I have a different kid! Actually my old kid back! A kid with the wonderment of possibility, willing to dream without that heavy burden he had been carrying…With your help, and that wonderful little book, (Smoke) his confidence is up and he is being respected for what he is doing. He has always been in his head too much, often to his detriment….but you and your training tools have taught him to do things differently. I don’t know how to thank you! – Jennifer, Minnesota
