In Becoming a Champion, Handling Failure/Adversity, Winning/Losing

I thought I was good until I competed and lost quite badly…
And then I realized how little I really knew…

Losing bruised my ego and left me depressed and feeling awful about myself….And then I realized that this was good…

How else can you learn and improve without feeling this emotional pain, over and over again…

So losing motivated me to put more effort in, to work with a coach on my technique, to build my endurance and physical strength, to do all the extra, uncomfortable stuff…

As a result, I got better and then competed again…But I lost, this time painfully beaten by a stuck up, trash-talking rival…and I was so angry and frustrated that I had lost to him….it haunted me for days…

Until I finally realized, it’s not about the winning or the losing…It’s not about the competition…It’s about YOUR pursuit of excellence…about getting as good as YOU possibly can! This is what it’s about…And this is what winning really is
